From the founder
Personal Commitment
I founded InterGen after years of volunteering in retirement homes—most often at the piano, sharing music with residents, including those living with memory loss. What stayed with me was not only the music itself, but how much a young person's presence could shift a room. Those afternoons offered something no classroom could: wisdom, perspective, and a quieter education in what it means to care for one another across generations.
Over time, a gap became unmistakable. Young people have few natural paths into the lives of older adults, and many seniors go weeks without meaningful contact with youth. InterGen exists to close that distance—making intergenerational volunteering easier to find, easier to sustain, and worth returning to for everyone involved.
