Volunteer at a Senior Living Community
Senior living communities — including independent living, assisted living, retirement, and memory care — rely on volunteers to add energy, conversation, and programming that staff cannot provide alone.
A typical first visit
You apply to a posted opportunity, the community reviews your application, and if approved you receive instructions for check-in, identification, and where to meet staff. Visits usually happen in common areas, not private rooms.
Expect a short orientation. Communities will tell you what is helpful, what is off-limits, and who to go to if a resident needs assistance.
Roles communities post most often
Companionship and conversation, activity support, music or reading, technology help, gardening, event setup, and intergenerational programs with students. Some communities also need help with group games or seasonal celebrations.
